There is also this GUI frontend for youtube-dl which I trust a lot more, and seems to work on Windows and Linux. They also only support Windows as of the time of this posting, but claim support for macOS and Linux is 'coming soon'. Someone else here posted a link to which claims to be a GUI frontend for youtube-dl, but I can't vouch for it. (On that note, if the program ever fails to work, it's probably because youtube has update something that breaks it, and you're using an older version and you need to download the latest version.) The program is constantly updated to keep up with any changes youtube makes to their protocols. Read the docs or run youtube-dl -help to get a list of options (there are many).īut in general you don't need any of the fancy options, and downloading a video is as easy as running the program from the command line via this simple command: youtube-dl Works across all OSs (Windows, macOS, Linux).
